It doesn’t matter how good you are at cooking or how well your fridge is packed with groceries. There are just some days that you do not feel like cooking or you want to catch up with an old friend over lunch. There are still ways to do this around Wilmington without breaking the bank. Wilmington offers all kinds of cheap dining and all kinds of different options to choose from. After living in Wilmington for some time, here is my list of cheap local places to eat without having that dreaded buyers remorse.
Islands Fresh Mex Grill- If you like cheap tacos then this is the place to go. Islands specializes in burritos, tacos, salads, nachos, quesadillas, enchiladas and other fresh Mex favorites. Every night after 5 pm they have dollars tacos and this is a great deal if you are looking for a meal that will fill you up. Islands also sells beer and has a bar in case you are looking to get drunk with the money you saved. If you are going here with friends then be sure to call it “Islands” so you don’t look like a kook.
P.T.’S Olde Fashioned Grille- Known to have “Wilmington’s best Burger” P.T.’S is the place you want to go if you just want a nice burger and fries in a relaxed atmosphere. The menu offers other things such as grilled chicken sandwiches, roast beef sandwiches, hot dogs, turkey sandwiches, B.L.T. sandwiches, chicken tenders, Grilled cheese sandwiches, and salads. They also serve beer if you are looking to celebrate your savings. Be sure to call it P.T.’S so you look don’t look like a kook again.
French’s classic burgers– There is only one of these in Wilmington and it is run by a man whose name is Bob French and you will see him in there every time you go. This French’s is super local and has been there for 21 years. In my opinion, French’s has the best burger in Wilmington. Their menu also has hot dogs, grilled chicken sandwich, BBQ sandwich, fried bologna sandwich, and chili cheese fries. French’s does not sell alcohol but they sell coffee.
King Neptune– also known as Neptunes’s, is a great place that serves breakfast lunch and dinner. Located right next to the beach, it has a great location and great deals such as dollar tacos on Tuesday, chicken, and waffles on Wednesday, and half off hibachi bowls on Thursday. Other menu items that they have are pancakes, omelets, biscuits, burritos, burgers, sandwiches, salads, soups, seafood, and much more. Neptune’s acts as a restaurant and bar during the day, but once it turns nighttime, they move the tables and have it act as a dance floor and it turns into a full bar.
Pho café– If you are tired of the same old burgers and tacos then you can go to Pho café and experience some great cheap Vietnamese cuisine. The pho café offers mainly Pho (soup and noodles), Bahn Mi (sandwiches), and bubble tea. This may not sound like a lot but there are many variations and the prices are great. I would suggest getting all three items together to get the full experience.
